Globalisation

Globalisation is a widely debated topic worldwide. Some people may support it and some may not. The people who support it believe that globalisation has allowed countries to progress and increase the standard of living. On the other hand, those who belong to the anti-globalisation camp feel that the benefits are not felt by everyone, such as it making some individuals and countries worse off.

As for my stand on the issue, I would say that I have a neutral stand on it as globalisation has its own pros and cons.

The positive effects that resulted from globalisation would be the improvements in standard of living, the increased awareness of foreign culture and better environmental management.

As for the negative effects, such as the widening income gap between the rich and the poor and thus leading the poor to suffer with the growing standard of living, the loss of local culture and environmental degradation such as the contribution to deforestation and global warming.

There is also a point which has both positive and negative impacts, which is the increased competition among nations in investment and market and talent. Too much competition may lead to a loss, or if the quality of the country is good, profits would go to the country, therefore this point applies to both positive and negative impacts of globalisation.
